About Me
I am an emerging communications professional and M.A. Communications candidate with experience in editorial leadership, strategic communications, audience engagement and multimedia storytelling across print and digital platforms. My work focuses on translating complex information into accessible, engaging content that connect organizations, communities, and diverse audiences.
As Editor-in-Chief of Warrior Life magazine and The Union newspaper at El Camino College, I led editorial operations, audience development, content strategy, and social media initiatives through the development and execution of strategic engagement plans centered on audience-focused storytelling and targeted promotional initiatives.
Under my direction, I collaborated with cross-functional teams, resulting in:
- A 90% increase in newspaper readership and audience engagement
- A 95% increase in magazine digital engagement
- Expanded visibility for institutional initiatives while amplifying underrepresented voices across campus
- Strengthened relationships between the publications and campus leaders through strategic stakeholder engagement
- Multiple national and regional honors from the College Media Association, including Best Two-Year College Newspaper
During my tenure as Sports Editor, I served as the newsroom’s subject-matter expert for athletics. Through mentorship, editorial leadership, and the development of written and visual storytelling skills, I broadened the scope and quality of coverage, resulting in the publication’s most extensive sports coverage and multiple honors from CMA, Society of Professional Journalists, California College Media Association, and Associated Collegiate Press, including First Place in Best Print Sports Section.
In addition to my leadership experience, I currently serve as a freelance reporter for The Daily Breeze. Across professional and collegiate media organizations, I have produced content across a wide range of topics – athletics, crime, breaking news, opinion, features, photography, multimedia and video. I have covered sensitive and high-impact events requiring careful judgment and ethical reporting.
Highlights of my work include:
- An in-depth feature on beach volleyball legend and three-time Olympic medalist April Ross, elevating awareness of a significant coaching hire and its impact on student-athlete development
- Coverage of 41 athletic contests for The Daily Breeze and The Union, including playoff, championship, and state-level competition across multiple sports
- Crime and public safety reporting, including coverage of a sensitive campus incident and exclusive photography related to a high-profile criminal case connected to the campus community
- Reporting on institutional initiatives, policies, and issues affecting the ECC community
- Multiple individual journalism awards, including first place honors for Best Sports Story, Best Sports Photograph, and Best Magazine Cover from CMA
Outside of my professional work, I maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, and am a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner who values continuous learning, resilience, and personal growth. The lessons I’ve learned on the mats – adaptability, discipline, strategic thinking and composure under pressure have shaped my approach to leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
